This visa lets people be in Australia for up to 72 hours before they must leave Australia. Maritime Crew visa holders can use it to enter Australia by air to join a non-military ship. Some people are eligible to transit without a visa.

- if you are joining the crew of a non-military ship, be outside Australia and hold a Maritime Crew visa and the necessary crew documents

Studying and training visas
Visit Australia to participate in a course of study.

- hold Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC), or fall in one of the exemption categories
- must be 6 years or older
- prove you have a theylfare arrangement, if you are under 18

- A substantive visa ceases to be in effect if another substantive visa is granted

- meet certain investment requirements related to your provisional visa
- have a current nomination from an Australian state or territory
- continue your investment activities started under your Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional) visa
- stay in Australia permanently
- work and study in Australia
This visa lets you continue your investment activities in Australia permanently.
- hold, or for some people, must have held, a Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional) (subclass 188) visa in the Significant Investor stream or Significant Investor Extension stream, and
- continue to hold your complying investment or complying significant investment, as required for your subclass 188 visa, during the period of that visa
- have a current nomination from a state or territory government agency or Austrade which has not been withdrawn.

This visa lets holders and, in some cases, people who have held a Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional) visa (subclass 188) in the Entrepreneur stream, stay permanently.
- hold, or, in some cases, must have held, a Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional) (subclass 188) visa in the Entrepreneur stream, and have held the visa continuously for at least 4 years
- have demonstrated overall a successful record of undertaking entrepreneurial activities in Australia while holding the provisional visa
- have a current nomination from an Australian State or Territory government agency
- continue your entrepreneurial activities started under your Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional) (subclass 188) visa in the Entrepreneur stream
- stay in Australia permanently
- work and study in Australia
This visa allows you to own and manage a business in Australia, conduct business and investment activity in Australia or undertake an entrepreneurial activity in Australia

Investor Retirement visa (subclass 405) This temporary visa is for self-funded retirees who have no dependents and want to live in Australia during their retirement years.
This information is for former holders of Norfolk Island entry permits. This visa lets you remain in Australia indefinitely. You can travel overseas and return to Australia as a permanent resident until the travel component of your visa expires.

Repealed visas
The Business (Short Stay) visa (subclass 456) closed to new applications from 23 March 2013. The work entitlements on this visa have been replaced by the Temporary Work (Short Stay Activity) visa (subclass 400). From 19 November 2016, this visa was replaced by the Temporary Work (Short Stay Specialise) visa (subclass 400). Business people intending to travel to Australia for a short business visit (for example, going to a conference, negotiation or meeting) but not intending to work in Australia, can apply for the Business Visitor stream of the Visitor visa (subclass 600).
The following visas are closed to most new applications: the Business Owner (Provisional) visa (subclass 160) the Senior Executive (Provisional) visa (subclass 161) the Investor (Provisional) visa (subclass 162) the State/Territory Sponsored Business Owner (Provisional) visa (subclass 163) the State/Territory Sponsored Senior Executive (Provisional) visa (subclass (164) the State/Territory Sponsored Investor (Provisional) visa (subclass 165). Family members of people who already hold these visas might be able to get the same visa. If you have already applied for one of these visas and it has not yet been decided, you can also add your dependent children or your partner’s dependent children to your visa application until the application is decided. Your eligible family members can apply for this visa when they are in or outside Australia. Someone who applies for this visa must be outside Australia when it is granted unless they held a student visa when they applied. In this case, they can be in or outside Australia when the visa is granted.

The Retirement visa (subclass 410) is designed for retirees and their partners (if any) who want to spend some of their retirement years in Australia. This visa is not available to new or first-time visa applicants other than partners of existing Retirement visa holders, former Retirement visa holders who have not held another substantive visa since last entering Australia. Former Retirement visa (subclass 410) holders and their partners who have been granted any other substantive visa, including Visitor visas and Electronic Travel Authorities, are not able to reapply for this visa. Since 1 July 2009, Retirement visa holders have been able to apply for a visa which is valid for 10 years from the date of grant and does not have any restrictions on the hours they are able to work.

On 18 April 2017, the Hon Malcolm Turnbull MP, Prime Minister of Australia and the Hon Peter Dutton MP, Minister for Immigration and Border Protection jointly announced that the Temporary Work (Skilled) visa (subclass 457 visa) will be abolished and replaced with the completely new Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa which will support businesses in addressing genuine skill shortages.
